Teen Artist, Shaina Crump

March 06, 2008

So today’s a big day. My youngest sister, Shaina, turns 13. I have to say she’s amazing in so many ways. Kind-hearted and genuine are a couple that come to mind. Shaina also has a passion for art and even design to some extent. She has always loved drawing and I have seen flares for fashion, interior design, and photography along the way too. So, I simply wanted to wish her a great day and to share one of her many talents via a few of her sketches. She’s been down on her drawing skills the past year or so, but as you can see, she’s talented. Here are three sketches that I snagged from her sketch book over a year ago.

Happy Birthday, Shaina! Peyton and I share lots of stories about our siblings. It sounds like you're a pretty special one! I think your art work looks great. Even if you're not so sure, I hope you'll keep at it. I especially love the bird drawing above. I hope you enjoy your day and get to do something especially fun. Happy birthday!

Happy Birthday Shaina! Now that you're a teenager, you're going to have to start working on your teen angst, "whatever!" expression, etc. Good luck! wink

Hey Shaina, Happy 13th birthday. You are as old today as I was when you were born. That's crazy weird! I hope your day and weekend are wonderful. Teenage years are tough, but lots of fun and good memories. I LOVE your art, and I'm glad one of the girls in the family finally got some of the art gene. Peyton had a monopoly for a while. I think you have a great future in it if that's what you want to do. We're always praying for you and supporting you in everything. LOVE YOU LOTS!

Happy Birthday Shaina! I hope you have a great day. It's so strange to think that you are a teenager now. Keeping in mind that all that superficial stuff out there doesn't really matter will help you survive and conquer the teen years. Enjoy life and you'll do great. Your sketches are very nice. I'd love to see more.

I really like the bird drawing too. I've only seen Peyton's work, but it certainly seems artistic talent does run in your family. Happy Birthday Shaina!

Wow, 13! I hope you enjoy your teenage years...so many memories to come. I love looking back to when I was 13 and 14. I was in a similar situation as you are: new school and new friends. It wasn't easy at first, but all the friends that I have kept until now were friends that I made when I was 14. I can't tell you how excited I am to watch you get older! You are becoming such an amazing young woman. Loving you!

We love you so much Aunt Shaina! You're a great aunt and a fantastic artist. You'll have to teach us to draw as we get older.

Sketching is one of the very best ways to really observe the world around you. Plus, the more you practice, the easier it gets. I've been lazy about it lately myself, but I may just need to break out those charcoals again... Cool drawings - don't stop now! And Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Shaina! I remember a few years back when you came to work with Peyton and spent the entire day drawing. Creativity definitely runs in the Crump family. =) Keep drawing and don't be discouraged. As artists we tend to be our worst critic but we must learn to use that to motivate and push us forward. BTW, I love your sunflowers drawing and how each flower just looks happily basking in the sun.

When I met you were only five years old. It is hard to believe that you are 13! For my 13th birthday I got an alarm clock. Apparently this is the age when you have to start taking care of yourself. I hope your birthday is very exciting and you don't have to start paying rent or anything. I will see you at Ronni's tonight. Or I guess you can choose the place since it is your birthday.

Shaina, Perhaps you, too, will move toward web design as your future career. We're always looking for talented designers! Wouldn't it be cool to work for Peyton in 7 years?! (you'd start as a summer intern while still in college, of course!) Thirteen was awhile ago for me, but I still remember that being the magic number to get my ears pierced in my family. I was so excited that I fainted in the shopping mall afterwards! LOL I hope you have a better day than that (but just as memorable)!

My best memory from age 13: Meeting my friend (to this day -- and I'm 27!) Kathy at gymnastics camp after literally flipping into her. Probably not her favorite memory, though. Anyway, I hope your thirteenth year has you running into cool new people (without bruising them, I suggest) and learning some fantastic new skillz, too. Happy Birthday! Steph ps Yellow cake is the best.

HAPPY 13th SHAINA!!! WOW, I can't believe you're a teenager today! But I guess I can believe, since you are seeming more and more mature all the time (as your art continues to show). It just makes me feel old...anyway, I'm so excited for you and I hope you have a super fun celebration! You deserve lots of fun and happiness! I love you!!!

Oh, Shaina! I know you will find this hard to believe but I still remember when I turned 13!!! I thought that I had finally arrived!! Twelve is just so in between childhood and the Teen Years!! Teenagers have such a good time striving toward becoming adults---often challenging times but they sure are a lot of fun years!! You have a great birthday today, celebration with your friends this weekend and a great year all year! I love you just bunches and bunches and I really like your art! Jeannie

Hey Shaina, I'm really sorry I wasn't able to get on here in time yesterday but I hope your day was wonderful. I can't believe how old (and tall) you are. I'm so grateful to have you as my little sister and I hope you know how proud we all are of who you are becoming. You are definitely the coolest 13 year old I know. I miss you and can't wait to come home. Have a blast with your friends this weekend. You deserve it. Love you lots. Sarah
